Rinjani Join Group Trek: The Complete Guide for Budget Travellers

Mount Rinjani is one of the most beautiful volcano treks in Southeast Asia – and one of the most expensive if you book a private trip. A Rinjani join group trek (also called a sharing group or open trip) is the budget-friendly way to climb it without giving up the tents, mattress and food you would get on a private trek.

What is a Rinjani join group trek?

On a join group trek you don't hire a whole crew for yourself. You join other travellers who booked the same route and the same start date. The group shares one guide team, the porters and the cook – and so the cost per person drops a lot.

A join group on Mount Rinjani has a maximum of 8 trekkers. This is a rule of the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR), not something we invented. Bigger bookings are split into two groups, each with its own guide.

Who joins a sharing group?

• Solo travellers who want trekking friends instead of trekking alone
• Backpackers and students with a tight budget
• Couples and small groups of friends who are happy to meet new people
• First-time trekkers who want an experienced team to look after them

Is the quality lower on a join group trek?

It shouldn't be – and with us it isn't. Every trekker gets a tent, a sleeping bag, a mattress, a toilet tent at camp, and all meals, fruit and drinking water on the trek. A licensed English-speaking guide and porters come with every group. The only real difference from a private trek is that you share the trail – and the bill – with a few other hikers.

Two prices: Trek Only or Standard

We offer two ways to join a group:

• Trek Only – for travellers who already rented a motorbike and ride to Senaru or Sembalun themselves. Everything on the mountain is included: 2D1N USD 118, 3D2N USD 134, 4D3N USD 143.
• Standard sharing group – adds pick-up in Lombok, 1 night hotel in Senaru before the trek and drop-off afterwards. The price per person depends on the size of your booking.

2. Send us your date and number of people on WhatsApp.
3. We confirm your place in a join group for that date.
4. Pay by bank transfer and get ready for Rinjani.
